Employee Behaviors and Standards

The mission of Ellis Medicine is to meet the health and wellness needs of our community with excellence. Ellis' core values are integrity,safety, compassion, stewardship and excellence.

In order to fulfill our mission and honor our values, Ellis employees are asked to commit to a set of Behaviors and Standards aimed at Making Ellis Exceptional (MEE).

Each member of our healthcare team plays an important role in providing our customers with excellent service. Our employees demonstrate care and concern to patients and co-workers through behaviors that are friendly, polite and accommodating.

The MEE Behaviors & Standards are a list of expectations for ALL EMPLOYEES.

Appearance

  • Follow dress code policies, including, but not limited to:
    • Dress professionally and appropriately for your job
    • Practice good hygiene
    • Wear your unadorned ID badge, easily visible at chest level
    • Political buttons/badges are prohibited
    • No head wear with the exception of that for professional, religious or medical reasons
    • Spacers, plugs, ear gauging, and facial/tongue piercings are prohibited
    • Use of cell phones and personal electronic devices is restricted to break/meal times in non-patient care areas.

Ownership

  • Treat our customers like family
  • Apologize when in the wrong
  • Accept and perform the responsibilities of your job
  • Follow-up and close the loop
  • Pick up litter
  • Eliminate waste and keep costs down

Communication

  • Smile and use eye contact
  • Use a quiet voice, be aware of noise levels
  • Comply with providing privacy and patient confidentiality
  • Communicate in a manner appropriate to the receivers understanding
  • Use proper phone etiquette, Good morning/afternoon/evening, emergency department, this is ________, how may I help you?

Respect

  • Participate in joint efforts without superior/subordinate, order giving/taking realtionships
  • Praise whenever possible
  • Offer constructive criticism in private
  • Cooperate and do not undermine another's work
  • Use courtesy titles (Dr. Mr. Mrs., etc.)
  • Listen without interrupting
  • Acknowledge differences in culture/diversity
  • Comply with boundaries and work within your scope of practice
  • Facilitate an environment for healing

Attitude

  • Be positive
  • Promote forward thinking
  • Recognize problems as opportunities for improvement
  • Do not make excuses or blame others
  • Leave personal business and problems at home
  • Collaborate when problem solving
