Malene Ingram, M.D. serves both the local and global community as a surgeon at Ellis Medicine and as a Major in the U.S. Army. Born in Michigan, Dr. Ingram grew up in Colorado and New Mexico. Dr. Ingram’s parents are both physicians. Her father is a research psychologist. Her mother, one of 16 children, became a General Practice physician during the Civil Rights movement and instilled in Dr. Ingram a strong work ethic and dedication to others. Dr. Ingram has a brother and two sisters who live near her parents in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Ingram joined Ellis Medicine’s Bariatric team in 2006. As a weight loss (bariatric) surgeon at Ellis Medicine, Dr. Ingram has helped hundreds of patients transform their lives while improving the quality of life in our community and addressing the nation’s obesity epidemic. Dr. Ingram provides clinical and strategic direction for Bariatrics, one of the hospital’s major service lines and a program nationally recognized for excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. In addition, she contributes leadership to several key hospital committees and to the Schenectady County Medical Society as a member at large.
As a Major in the U.S. Army Reserves assigned to the Army Medical Corps, Dr. Ingram has served in the war zones of Iraq (2007)and Afghanistan (2010), performing surgery on wounded U.S. soldiers and native civilians
